Green screens are an important tool for professional film makers but they can also be helpful for students doing school projects. If you have access to video editing software like iMovie or Final Cut Pro then you can easily take video shot in front of a green screen and superimpose yourself on a totally different background like they do in big-budget Hollywood movies.

If you want to set up a green screen at home or in school then you have a couple of options to consider. If you are not in a rush and don’t mind investing some money then you can buy a green screen kit or green screen paint. Alternatively, if you need to make a green screen on the fly and don’t want to spend too much money then you can get some green fabric from your local fabric shop for just a few dollars.

My daughter wanted to make an infomercial for a project in her Global Studies class and needed to superimpose herself on a different background so we headed off to the local JoAnn Fabrics and Crafts shop. We purchased 6 feet of cotton fabric at $3.49 a yard.

Then, we ironed it and tacked it to the wall with three wall tacks.

It worked perfectly for superimposing her on a photo of a beautiful kitchen in Final Cut Pro.
